Mission: Summer, Beautiful

It’s like living in a light bulb, with the leaves
Like filaments and the sky a shell of thin, transparent glass
Enclosing the late heaven of a summer day, a canopy
Of incandescent blue above the dappled sunlight golden
                   on the grass…

Poem by: John Koethe

It’s summer time! We are {basically} halfway through the year. This is a great time to hit {pause} and {look at what you’ve done so far} in and for 2012. This summer, make it memorable! Mission: Summer, Beautiful!

1. GET YOUR SUMMER READING LIST READY!

This is your chance to catch up on some great writing, faraway adventures, and love stories through the ages! It’s so refreshing to grab a new book and enter into a new world, full of new people and new ideas. So far I’ve read: Lets Pretend This Never Happened (hilarious book), Room (interesting read), The History of Love (creative; had quotes I’ll carry with me always), Lolita (mesmerizing), Seven Habits of Highly Effective People (eye-opening), The Mindfulness Solution (boundary-lifting). Waiting in the queue: The Tipping Point and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.  The more children see adults reading, the more inspired they are to read! And let’s be honest… the world would be a better place with more readers!

2. FIND YOUR FREE SIDE, FLIRT A LITTLE, GO OUT ON A LIMB!

When else do you get the chance to not worry about stuff and just… be? Get out! Dream big! Flirt with someone! Laugh, smile and embrace the sunshine. Don’t even think about silly things like: “Oh, well everything good must come to an end” and “I almost have to go back to work.” Live in the moment, and live it up!

3. HAVE FUN WITH YOUR FOOD!

For example: Grape caterpillars! Tis the season for light and fresh fruits! Make it fun, and eat healthy. Then you’ll feel even more amazing to go out and play volleyball on the sand, or go for a walk {hand-in-hand… sorry couldn’t resist}. You will just feel better, feel happier, feel lighter and brighter. Remember: We are what we eat! So let’s have fun this summer!

4. MAKE TIME TO CATCH UP WITH YOUR DEAR FRIENDS!

You may or may not have been able to see them yet this year (January – June). So change that! Call them up and make some plans. It’s time to catch up on everything they haven’t been able to tell you via text or e-mail or quick phone conversations. It’s time to soak in their experiences, feelings, life stories, new ideas and new plans for their future. And plus, who couldn’t use some laughs and hug from your close friends or family?

5. WRITE DOWN WHAT YOU’VE LEARNED SO FAR AND WHAT YOU HOPE TO LEARN!

We’ve all had lessons that we’ve learned thus far, or creative moments that we wish to hold on for forever. Write down your story, your thoughts, your hopes and dreams. Write down everything you felt during hard times, and how you pulled through them. Keep a history of your life, because it’s happening right now.

6. SAVE MONEY!

Try your hardest to set aside some money for the second half of the year. Set a goal and put aside a specific amount each month. Watch as it grows and grows. It’s never too late to start saving; start today!

7. GIVE YOURSELF TIME, PEACE, SPACE… A MOMENT IN TIME!

Source: wholeliving

We’ve been pushing for profits for months now. Chiiiiiiill. Breathe. Meditate. Re-charge those engines or else you risk suffering from burnout (and that is never a good thing). Listen to your body, heart, mind and spirit. If you feel tired, rest. If you need help, ask. If you need silence, make it. If you don’t care for yourself, the world won’t.

8. GIVE YOURSELF A SEASON PASS TO BE A CHILD AGAIN!

If you are so caught up in checking e-mail or trying to accomplish certain benchmarks, you may sometimes forget to stop and have fun. Life needs a balance to keep us sane and to keep us smiling. So put down your phone/laptop/iPad occassionally and throw a water balloon, please.

It’s for your own good.

GO SUMMER, GO!
